My Curriculum Vitae

Current Projects

I am investigating the effect of simple shear deformation on the distribution and permeability of metallic melts, such as iron sulfide, in silicate rocks, with an emphasis on the post-deformation microstructure and textural fabrics that develop. The goal of this project is to understand how initially isolated pockets of non-wetting melts (melts that do not readily form connected networks through polycrystalline rocks) can interconnect and move through mantle-type rocks, to understand the processes that lead to the development of metal-rich cores in terrestrial planets. Planetary bodies are not static environments, so the effect of deformation on undifferentiated metal-silicate systems needs to be understood.
